STUDIO 395 needs your help to do some simple set up painting (stenciling from a defined pattern) along the wall on Collier across from the Outlet Mall so that the design is ready for the city-wide project on April 22nd.

Please come out and assist. Meet up with Grace Sandlin anytime during the day. Adults only please. Thanks!!

Basic Maker's Classes ~ What, When, Where??

Maker’s Basics Sessions
If you are interested in any of these classes please send an email to
villageongrand@studio395.org
Please provide your full name, email address, phone number and the class you are interested.
All participants must be 14 years or older (minors [under 18] must be accompanied by an adult).
The Village On Grand will be hosting a series of basic vocational skills training classes that are necessary for the creation of Maker’s Art pieces such as furniture, fixtures and sculpture. Maker’s work is sometimes referred to as industrial, relic revival, shabby chic, upcycling, etc. and usually incorporates antique pieces, reproductions or are just finished to look vintage.
Jason Chacon, a local Maker and board member with STUDIO 395, will lead these small sessions in his shop at the Village. We are currently signing up an interest list for each of the following classes. Once a group has been compiled, Jason will schedule the date and time (usually to be held weekday evenings).
What is a Maker? Per Wikipedia: "Maker culture emphasizes learning-through-doing (active learning) in a social environment. Maker culture emphasizes informal, networked, peer-led, and shared learning motivated by fun and self-fulfillment. Maker culture encourages novel applications of technologies, and the exploration of intersections between traditionally separate domains and ways of working including metal-working, calligraphy, film making, and computer programming. Community interaction and knowledge sharing are often mediated through networked technologies, with websites and social media tools forming the basis of knowledge repositories and a central channel for information sharing and exchange of ideas, and focused through social meetings in shared spaces such as hackspaces. Maker culture has attracted the interest of educators concerned about students’ disengagement from STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) in formal educational settings. Maker culture is seen as having the potential to contribute to a more participatory approach and create new pathways into topics that will make them more alive and relevant to learners."
